For this house I used the gingerbread dough recipe from masterchef.  I swapped half the glucose syrup for molasses to give a deeper flavour (as per recipe below). To make this house required three batches of dough. The main reason I choose this recipe is that it does not require beaters – it was much quicker to make than recipes that I have used in the past and tastes beautiful. I love the smell of freshly baked gingerbread wafting through the house.

430g (15.17 ounces) or 1 3/4 cup plus 3Tbsp butter roughly chopped
430g (15.17 ounces) or 2 cups caster sugar
250g (8.82 ounces) or 2/3 cup plus 2tsp glucose syrup
260g (9.17 ounces) or 3/4 cup molasses
180 millilitres (6.09 fluid ounces) or 2/3 cup plus 1Tbsp milk
1195g (42.15 ounces) or 7 1/3 cups plus 2Tbsp plain flour
12g (0.42 ounces) or 2tsp bicarb soda
20g (0.71 ounces) or 4tsp cinnamon
12g (0.42 ounces) or 2tsp ground cloves
12g (0.42 ounces) or 2tsp ground ginger
Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
Melt butter in a large saucepan add the glucose syrup, molasses and sugar and heat to 43 degrees to dissolve sugar.
Add the milk, stir then add flour bicarb and spices cook over low heat until mixture forms a paste.
Wrap in plastic wrap and place in the fridge to cool.
Roll out and cut pieces leaving border on as in picture.
Bake for 15-20 minutes.

  1. You say you needed to tripple the recipe. Is what you listed the tripple recipe, or is this just one batch? Also when you cool it in the fridge do you take it out of the pan first?

  2. I bought this and you didn’t have any of the support sides for the windows/roof in the cut out file. Please refund my money.

    • Hi Sarah, The gingerbread house template contains the templates needed to cut all the gingerbread house pieces to build this house. The part around the window that you are asking about is a single strip cut out of fondant. It is easiest to cut one long strip and then cut to size as you place it around your actual windows on the house rather than pre-cutting them. You can make the thickness of your window frames (the strip of fondant) as wide or narrow as you like. Similarly the blue edge of the roof is fondant on the end of the gingerbread house roof piece, as each person may roll their gingerbread to a slightly different thickness cutting a long strip to fit your gingerbread house once it is assembled is the best way to go. If you still require assistance please contact us at [email protected] thanks

    • Hi Sarah, I have just checked the template file and all pieces appear to be there. Perhaps you are missing a page from your print out?? I have forwarded you email to customer care as well in case you need the file resnt. Thanks.

  3. The instructions aren’t showing up- how do I find them? I purchased the template.

  8. Hello! I download and printed the template but there are black lines that run over the A3 paper and it looks like some of the cut outs dont fit entirely on the PDF either??? Help pleaasseee :/
I just would like to know if the things half on the paper is a “Nessessatiy”

    • Hi Anna, ignore the lines on the very edge of the page, that is the way it exported from indesign it repeated the things from the page before.

  9. Is there a way to download the assembly and icing instructions. It would be much easier to have a paper copy when working with the sticky icing.

    Kathy

  10. Hi. I downloaded the pdf for the cutouts for the UP house and we need some instructions on how to put it together. Does it not come with instructions? We only recieved the cutouts. Thanks.

  11. I just tried to pay for the template of the gingerbread house from the movie up. It sent me to sign up for a paypal account, I wanted to pay with credit card, not sure if it went through or if I was charged. HELP!

    • hi lorna, you can pay by credit card it is just not the most obvious thing on the paypal page (they would rather you made an account with them). Just ignore all the paypal signup stuff on the page and look for pay by credit card

  12. I am very interested in making this house, but according to the website the PDF plan is sold out. Is this a mistake, since it’s a downloadable doc?

    Thanks, Judi
