Kids School Holidays Activity Idea – Recipe Invention Test

Need something to do with the kids on a rainy day this school holidays?  This one is a winner – let the kids make up their own recipe, plate it up and present it for ‘judging’.

Each of the boys started with five eggs, half a block of chocolate, a cup of cream, a small bowl of flour, cocoa powder, sugar and some mixed frozen berries.  (I would definitely recommend limiting the ingredients – otherwise they tend to keep pouring more and more in).

They had 1 hour on the clock, no recipe books and could invent whatever they liked.  They did not have to use all the ingredients but if they wanted to use anything extra that was not provided then they had to ask first.  I let them do this the day BEFORE my cleaning day.

I was very surprised at how much they got into it … after an hour of cooking they both wanted to keep going with their leftover ingredients.  I loved their creativity, especially the plating that they came up with.
