Pirates Band of Misfits 3D Fondant Cake

how to make a pirate cake pirates band of misfits cake

“Your flight has been delayed…”  ” Your flight has been cancelled. Please collect your baggage”. Not the words you want to hear when you have a cake to make! I usually plan ahead sufficiently to ensure that I do not have a very late night before a kids party. I need energy for the party. This time however, due to spending 4 extra hours chasing my 12 month old around the airport terminal, the cake was a last minute job.

My son wanted to see ‘Pirates the Band of Misfits’ movie with some friends for his birthday,so he chose the Pirate Captain for his cake. Making a detailed cake like this takes way too long to video so I have tried to capture the steps with pictures to give you an idea of where to start if you want to make your own 3D fondant cake.

    • Hi Maria, The cake itself is not very big on this one, we were only having a small party so we kept it little. If you use one quantity of the best chocolate cake recipe you will have more than enough.

  7. hello Ann i really love this cake but i am having some problem on how to make the mouth if you can give some help thanks from nadia

    • Hi Nadia, I have been away on vacation hence the slow reply… if it is not too late cut a piece of black fondant the right shape but slightly too big and place on baking paper over something slightly rounded so that it will sit correctly on the face once dry. make a very thin tongue and put in place, make the teeth – make slightly longer than needed just make sure that the bit you will be able to see looks good. See the second photo and you can see what it looks like at this stage. Then put in place on the skin coloured fondant on the face. Roll out some more skin colour and cut a slit in it, place this layer over the mouth opening the slit so that you can see the teeth but the outer edges are still covered. This layer does not need to go over the whole face just the mouth area keep it in the area that will be covered in beard. Hope that helps.

  8. WOW…. if that cake is mine, i guess it would take me some more days before i eat the cake…too beautiful to eat… 🙂
