Chocolate Coated Oreos Recipe

If you want a pattern on top buy some chocolate transfer sheets.
They have a thin layer of coloured cocoa butter on them in a pattern, when you add the warm chocolate it melts the cocoa butter and leaves the pattern on the chocolate when it sets.
Then take a round object and trace around it onto the back of the transfer sheet and cut it out.

CHOCOLATE OREO METHOD 1:

Chocolate oreo recipe by Ann Reardon
The first method is using a metal muffin tin, for this you will need to line your tin with cupcake wrappers.
Place you circles rough side facing up into the base of the cupcake wrappers.
Take an oreo, drop it into the the melted chocolate, then using a fork take it out and place it into the cupcake wrapper.

Take a spoonful of extra chocolate and top up each one to just cover the oreo.
Allow them to set and then take off the papers and peel off the chocolate transfer sheets.

The second way of making them gives a thinner coat of chocolate and is good for mini oreos or if you are in a hurry.
Place your oreo in the melted chocolate and make sure it is completely covered. Remove it from the chocolate and place on either a chocolate transfer sheet or a sheet of baking paper to set.

Allow them to set and then peel them off the transfer sheet .

METHOD 3:

This last method is my favourite one because I think they look the best, we are going to use white chocolate and colour it using oil based colour. Just take a small amount and stir it through. Using water based colour will cause you chocolate to seize, you can buy candy colours or oil based colours online or from some cake decorating stores.

Again if you want a pattern on them cut out circles from a chocolate transfer sheet and put it in the base of a silicone cupcake tray. Place a couple of spoons of chocolate into the mold, top with an oreo, gently push it down and top with more chocolate. Spread it around until it is smooth. Once you have filled them all you can bang the tray on the bench to smooth the tops.

Allow them to set and then pop them out of the silicone mold and peel off the transfer sheet.
They look great on candy buffets and dessert tables you can go to that post for more tips on DIY candy buffets.

Make sure you watch the video on how to temper chocolate and what chocolate to use so that they will not melt at room temperature.

  3. My wife has made these chocolate covered oreos for Xmas and they came out beautiful like yours. I heard that there are some people that can change the filings for example peanut butter. Do you know how to make a peanut butter filled chocolate covered oreos? Maybe other ideas for fillings as well.

  4. Look so simple…..

But can you use candy melts.

    • Hi Esther, What is sold as a ‘candy melt’ varies from country to country, but usually it is fake chocolate. You can use them but they wont taste as good.

  5. Hi Ann, What chocolate do you use for your chocolate covered Oreos?

    • Ann likes to use real chocolate.

  6. Hi Marva, You can get them from good cake decorating stores. Do a quick search online for Chocolate transfer sheets and you should find some local suppliers. I just did the same thing and found half a dozen suppliers. Obviously you may live in a different area. You can also get them via amazons and ebay, though this seems to be more expensive in most cases.

  7. Where can I buy the Willow silicone pan that was used for the Oreos?

  8. Thank you for sharing such a great tutorial. I’m making these for my son’s bday party!

  9. Hi. These lol gorgeous and I’m trying them for the first time this week. Curious- how do you keep the melted chocolate from seeping around/underneath the transfer sheet? Or maybe this isn’t a problem? I’m notorious for messy projects so wanted to be sure before I start.

    Thanks!

    • Hi Bethany, good question, the sheet is so fine it just stayed at the base and the chocolate didn’t go under it

  10. where can i get the transfer sheet i live in dubai uae

    • there’s links in the description below the Youtube video

      • Hi Ann I am 13 and I wanted to ask how much chocolate and Oreos do need?

        • Hi Spohie, that depends on teh method you use (dipping will use less than the molds). If you buy one packet of oreos then buy about 375g chocolate for molds

  11. Hi Ann,
I’ve just discovered that adding a little melted Crisco or shortening to
gel food colour keeps chocolate from seizing and also
saves in buying oil colour or powdered and the options
of colours is much greater with gels.

  12. Thank you for the great tips! I love putting them in the silicone tray. Seems so much easier that way. Can’t wait to try this out. They are perfect for dessert tables and candy buffets.

  13. These look amazing but before I make them, were can I get the Chocolate Transfers sheets and how much are they, and would I be able to get them anywhere in Geelong, Victoria…
    thanks Ann

  14. hi Ann, can you use gel colors with fake/compound chocolate

    • Hi Maureen, No it causes it to seize. If you added a very tiny amount it can work though it is not smooth. To get good colours it requires too much colour and it seizes.

  15. the kids will adore it …. they look very attractive

    • 😀

  16. Hi Ann,
I’m planning to make these for my daughter’s 1st bday. How many days in advance can i make them? I just don’t want to make them too early & they will go stale. What are your storing recommendations? Thanks!

    • hi lyn, enrobing the oreos in chocolate will keep them fresh, then store in an airtight container. You could make them up to a week ahead

  17. hi ann what’s the recipe used to cover the oreo? please. thank you 🙂

  18. Hey.. I loves those…Where can I buy online the silicone molds? What dimensions are?

    Thanks

      • I purchased the pan you recommended, I think it is too big. in your video it shows you putting the chocolate to the top and smoothing. I could only put about 1/2″ of chocolate in. it measures 2″ on the bottom, the width is about 2-3/4 on the top and the depth is about 1-1/2″. there was no way to smooth the top. loved the way the chocolate looked glossy. is there another pan you could recommend? can theWillow one you used be purchased- I tried to find that one and couldn’t

        • Hi Karen, Ann got the silicon pan you are referring to from a local supermarket. It was just a standard cupcake/muffin tray.

  19. Hi Ann

I have the most unsteady pair of hands, I can’t really hold a pair of scissors upright or straight enough to cut out circles of edible transfer paper. Is there anything that you could reccomend for me?

    • Hi Celeste you could use method 2, or not use transfer sheets, put criss crosses of one coloured chocolate into the silcone muffin mold, let dry and then cover in a different colour.

    • You could also use a 2″ circle punch to get a perfect circle . They sell them at Michaels and Joan Fabric.

      • Great idea Yvonne

    • Hi Celeste you could buy the paper cutter diferent shapes at michaels, A.C Moore Joans

  20. Hello Anne Love your videos! I am thinking of making the chocolate oreos, where do you get the chocolate transfer sheets? Berni

    • Hi Berni, I purchased these ones on ebay, some cake decorating stores also have them but tend to have a minimum order of a set number of the same sheet.

    • At walmart cake section
