Chocolate Food Art Starry Night

This might be the yummiest painting ever! Edible chocolate paint in cute homemade silver paint tubes. Plus a solid chocolate palette and thin white chocolate paper. What masterpieces will your guests create and then eat?

After I posted the chocolate pencils recipe recently, I asked what artwork you would most like to see in chocolate. Amazingly, over 200 people requested ‘Starry Night’ by Van Gogh. While it looked deceptively simple at first, I quickly realised just how many brush strokes and beautiful colours went into this famous painting. Make sure you watch it being painted in time-lapse at the end of the video.

  1. Hi i’m planning to recreate this and was wondering if you needed more than the 100g to create starry night.

  2. How many people dose it sever

    • Hi Colette, that depends on how much chocolate you want to eat. Look at a block and decide how much you want to serve each person, multiply by the number of guests, then look at the recipe and adjust accordingly.

  3. your art is amazing!

    • thanks Bella 😀

  4. Hi, can you please make something related to harry potter because I wanna make something harry potterish for my birthday cake .
    BTW: I LOVE your videos

  5. Thanks again Ann! Your recipes NEVER failed me!

    • Thanks for uploading to the blog Katerina, I love this cake you’ve done such a great job 😀

  6. I found your posts online… and was hooked! I’ve watched so many of your tutorials within the past few days… and am truly amazed. The mark of someone brilliant is the ability to teach something complex, and break it up so it looks completely doable, and this tutorial is absolutely an indication of that- it’s difficult to paint, let alone copy a famous painting… and with food?!?! Thank you for sharing such beautiful artistry!

  7. Hi!!! Love your artwork. I don’t like the new Youtube commenting system… because I don’t have a Google Plus account and I can’t upgrade I can’t comment or like anything. 🙁 The painting tubes are really cute and fancy!!!

  8. Hi Ann
can you use liquid food colouring instead of gel food colouring to colour the ganache? 🙂

  9. Hello Ann!
From the moment I saw this tutorial I fell in love with it, the whole idea is so unique and beautiful!
I have a question!I want to make a palette cake and these paint tubes would look so nice next to it (or on it! :P).. I want to print out the tube template but I don’t know what size to make it.. How much was your zoom when you printed it (to fit the size of the tubes that are shown in the video)?is it about 78,7%? I don’t have a printer at home so I ‘ll go to the bookstore..
    thanks in advance,
    katerina!
    (YOU ARE AWESOME!!)

    • I forgot one more thing! After the tubes are filled, where should I store them? the cake is going to be served Friday night (2 days)..if I put them in the fridge I’m afraid that they’ll become too firm and won’t come out of the tube when I want them too..should I make the tubes on the day that the cake is served and leave them out of the fridge?
(sorry for my long texts,I’m always so very worried for little details..haha)

      • Hi Katerina, you can leave the tubes at room temp for a couple fo days without a problem. Store in an airtight container.

    • Hi Katerina, I printed the template in the exact size that it is 100% to make the tubes. Have fun baking

      • Thanks, Ann!
I printed them out without changing the size and they are perfect!!
I must deliver the cake tomorrow, so I ‘ll take a photo and post it on your facebook page!! thank you so much for the wonderful idea!!

  15. Can you make a bag cake?

  16. You should make muffins. Like a variety thing like you make one version and you can add whatever you want to. Like the ganache, you can make that but you can also add bananas or mint or chile or whatever you like.

  17. Can you teach me how to make butter cookies? Thank you and I really really LOVE all your posts and really really LOVE your website!
