Converse Shoe Cake Tutorial

Since making the high heel cake tutorial requests have been coming in thick and fast for a converse shoe cake. You can make this chuck Taylor All Star sneaker in any colour that your recipient wishes. Or if you’re brave why not try making a patterned one.

Did you know Nike owns converse? They bought out the rights to the brand in 2003 when converse filed for bankruptcy. The Chuck Taylor All Star shoe is very similar now to when it was first designed nearly 90 years ago.

To make the converse shoe cake you will need:

1 1/2 quantities of the chocolate cake recipe baked in two trays (my trays are 38cm (14.96 inches) x 25cm (9.84 inches))
2 x quantities of chocolate buttercream recipe

    • Hi Me, The templates take a lot of time and effort to get just right, so you can use them with confidence. They are well worth the small price.

  7. Hi Ann, Here is my attempt at your fabulous Converse Shoe cake. The birthday girl has a pair of converse in a mottled purple colour, so I tried to match it as best as I could. It’s her party tomorrow and I cant wait to see her face when she see’s it. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us and inspiring those of us that are not so confident in the kitchen to just get in there and have a go 🙂

    • Hi Linda, How long did it take to make your cake? It looks great. Can you do it in stages

      • Hi Colleen,
Thanks so much for your lovely comment. I made the cake to the point of it covered in the butter cream one day and then the next day I did the fondant work. I took my time with it. I did do it in stages and would just pop it into the fridge when ever I needed a break from it. It was pretty easy really. Just don’t try to rush it. If you decide to make it pop a picture on so I can see it. Good luck 🙂

        • Very nice. I wish I could make it!

  8. Wow it looks like it’s a real shoe

  9. Hi Ann! Where i can get template for this cake?

  10. Thanks Ann! I used your template to create this boxing shoe and the instructor LOVED it!

    • wow, you are brilliant Teresa. Well done!

  11. Hi ann,
Love this tutorial! Been following you for a while now and ive managed to improve my cake making skills thanks to you. Im going to use this as a base for a boot im making for my husband, so thank you!

Also maybe an idea for a future cake… in the UK Peppa pig is a massive childrens character and i wondered if you would consider doing a tutorial with this theme?

    🙂

  12. wow i want to make it in my son brith day

  13. Another great template and tutorial Ann! I’m getting quite a collection now. If I wanted to enlarge your templates to make bigger cakes, would it work if I just made each of the pieces larger. I’m thinking maybe drawing around the sole 1 cm bigger and then doing the corresponding fondant template the same. Just wondered if this would work out?

  14. Nevermind…shoe template problem solved.

  15. Are you even human? No one but no one can do what you do.

  16. this tute is great, thank you very much for sharing,my daughter would love this kind of cake!!
i will try it as soon as possible!
    i ve tried your chocolate buttercream with ganache,but i had troubles with the consistency of the buttercream;
i guess this is because of the measurement:i ve used american cups, and it was not smooth at all!!
could you please tell me if you use autralian cups?do you have the measurements in grams?
thanks for helping, because your recipe seems so good that i would love to be able to make it .
    happy baking,and happy new year

    • most other counter measure their ingredients on a scale because the accuracy is better, but a cup is generally a cup anywhere. I find the trick with regular buttercream frosting is that you may have to beat it for a long time to get it really smooth or maybe you can add a bit more milk

  17. Really like this tutorial. Haven’t made it yet, but I will. I also love your cake tutorial. thank you. Can any one tell me where to find ther high heeled shoe tutorial? I didn’t know she had one till this article made mention of it.
