Converse Shoe Cake Tutorial

Since making the high heel cake tutorial requests have been coming in thick and fast for a converse shoe cake. You can make this chuck Taylor All Star sneaker in any colour that your recipient wishes. Or if you’re brave why not try making a patterned one.

Did you know Nike owns converse? They bought out the rights to the brand in 2003 when converse filed for bankruptcy. The Chuck Taylor All Star shoe is very similar now to when it was first designed nearly 90 years ago.

To make the converse shoe cake you will need:

1 1/2 quantities of the chocolate cake recipe baked in two trays (my trays are 38cm (14.96 inches) x 25cm (9.84 inches))
2 x quantities of chocolate buttercream recipe

  5. Hey i tried following your video, did you freeze your cake first before you iced it because mines fell apart due to how moist it was? If so that detail was left out, what am i doing wrong?

    • Hi Sade, Ann didn’t freeze her cake at all. Generally fresh cakes can be a little crumbly but shouldn’t fall about because they are ‘too moist’ . It is hard to tell what the problem is without seeing your cake. If the cake was properly cooked, then as it should shape well using a serrated knife. If you used a knife with a straight edge it may have pulled at the cake a little. Could that have been the problem perhaps?

  8. Hi Ann, just wanted to know, will the converse shoe template work for the Louboutin spiked sneaker cake with the red bottom? I purchased the converse template about a year ago and now I have to do the pair of the Louboutin shoes next week.

  18. Hi Lou, the templates are just provided in PDF form and should open easily. Just check you have a viewer of some kind. If your computer isn’t recognising the document, that is likely the problem. If the document is not actually downloading then the problem may be your internet access as the files are not large. If the problem persists, then please email tech support: howtocookthat at iinet.net.au

  19. I love it. It’s so detailed.. shows your how good she is…

  20. why r u charging for the template i dont want to spend that money on the template

    • Hi Max, They take many hours to design and formulate and then test till Ann knows they will work well. Her time is as valuable as yours, so it is more than worth the small fee for purchase. If you don’t want to buy her template you could make your own.
