Easy 2 Ingredient Chocolate Mousse Recipe

easy chocolate mousse recipe

The easiest chocolate mousse you’ll ever make. All you need is chocolate and water! Perfect when you need a dessert a hurry. Get started with the first step, throw it in the freezer and make your mains. Then whip this up and serve. Done!

Dark Chocolate Mousse Recipe

180g (6.35 ounces) dark chocolate
60mL (2.03 fluid ounces) or 1/4 cup water
Extra 70mL (2.37 fluid ounces) or 2 1/2 tablespoons cold water from the fridge

Milk Chocolate Mousse

180g (6.35 ounces) milk chocolate
60mL (2.03 fluid ounces) or 1/4 cup water
Extra 60mL (2.03 fluid ounces) or 1/4 cup cold water from the fridge

White Chocolate Mousse

180g (6.35 ounces) white chocolate
60mL (2.03 fluid ounces) or 1/4 cup water
Extra 40mL (1.35 fluid ounces) or 3 Tblsp cold water from the fridge

Place the chocolate of your choice and the 60ml of water into a bowl. Microwave on high heat on full power for 30 seconds, stir well. Heat for another 20 seconds and stir again. The mixture should be smooth with all the chocolate melted. If you still have unmelted chocolate give it 10 seconds more in the microwave.
Put the mixture into a plastic bag, seal at the top and flatten. Place in the freezer for 1 hour. Flattening it in the bag increases the surface area so it cools down more quickly than it would in the bowl.
Whip the chilled chocolate mixture on high speed using electric mixers until smooth and paler. Add a little of the cold water at a time.

Pour or pipe into glasses.  Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and serve. Super easy!

    Hi Ann,
It would be great if you could suggest which brand of chocolates you use. Also will there be a difference if I buy bars or tablets?

Thanks in advance :). Love your recipes 🙂

    Hey Ann!

i tried this recipe and i only wanted to use one chocolate so i did milk like you suggested. I microwaved the chocolate and it wasnt melted all the way so i put it in for 10 more seconds but it still had chunks of unmelted chocolate. i wasnt sure if i should put it in the microwave again so i covered and i thought the heat would melt the small chunks but idk if thats a good idea.what should i do?
im not much of a baker but i really wanted to bake all the things you make!
    thx!
    z

    • Hi Z siddiqul, Ann has some great advice re dealing with chocolate that you can check out here: https://www.howtocookthat.net/public_html/temper-chocolate/ . In your case, it is likely that your microwave is lower wattage, so may need a little longer, you just need to be extra careful not to overdo it. Heat for the extra 10 seconds as per the recipe and give it a really good stir as microwaves heat unevenly. If there are still chunks in there of unmelted chocolate that don’t seem to be melting you could give it another 5-10 second burst.

    • That is great to hear Maria.

  4. Hi,

How many servings do I get with this recipe?
    I

    • hi if you are only making 1 of them for example just the milk chocolate i doubled the recipe and got 4 out of it so thats 360g of chocolate and a 1/2 a cup of water after i removed it from the fridge i used 30ml of water rather that 30ml or 1/8 of a cup of water then served

    • Hi RH, this will depend on the size of the serving you want or the glass you use. Ann made 4 servings using the quantities given here.

  5. How many servings will this serve?

    • Hi Laura, this will depend on the size of the serving you want or the glass you use. Ann made 4 servings using the quantities given here.

  6. After placing the cake tin in the middle rack of oven, we need to place any empty tray on the top shelf of oven; then do we need to place a bowl of boiling water below the cake tin rack; But this bowl of water to be placed inside the oven itself and not outside the oven. Is this correct ?
Is my understanding right > thanks and please reply, because in the video it is not clear

    • Hi Monica, I think you must be referring to a different recipe. This recipe is for chocolate mousse and doesn’t require any baking.

i think your recpies are amazing shame you cant buy most of the thing you nedd in the uk

    • Hi Iqra, Most of the items are easily available in the UK, Europe and US,though sometimes they go by slightly different names. We usually only find that items are hard to locate in some parts of Africa or in some parts of the middle east. This recipe uses just chocolate and water which are very readily available.

okie so. XDDD okie i will use it

    • Hi Stepheney the 2 ingredient mousse has no setting agent so while it is very yummy, it wont hold it’s shape in a dessert or cake like the instagram dessert.

    hi ann,
i really wanted to ask that y cant we use fake chocolate for this like hershys creamy milk chocolte or dairy milk or candy melts?
    great vedio once again

    • Hi Yasmine, the primary reason is that fake chocolates and melts just dont taste that good and they wont melt in your mouth like real chocolate. They also have a different melting point. The recipe works best and tastes best with real chocolate.

Hi Ann, really love all of your videos about chocolates especially your chocolate truffles. Tried some of those already and they’re really yummy. But then I came across this and I just want to ask how long is the shelf life for this recipe as compared to whipping a cream onto the chocolate?

    • Hi Vanilene, Ann suggests you could keep the mousse in the fridge for a couple of days. It usually gets eaten here within a day or so – so we can’t tell you how long it will stay in good condition.

I love your ideas but maybe if in the videos you gave us the ingredients and the measurement because you don’t give straight instruction

    • She usually always show the ingredients in the beginning, but that she chooses to send us over to the website for measurments and more, is completely understandable….
