  1. Hi Ann,
In Islam some food are restricted so is this Minecraft village cake suitable for vegetarians? By the way your cakes are extraordinary. Keep up the good work.

    • Hi Mahir, If you look at the ingredients, you can work out if this recipe meets your requirements. In some cases vegetarian alternatives are available.

  2. Hello Ann

I have bought the template for this cake but I am having difficulty getting the ice cube tray. I am in UK but the link in you post goes to a tray with 160 cells and I did order this but they are 1/2cm square and tiny!

Please can you tell me the brand of the one you have and the size of the cubes so I can order one of those.

    thank you

  3. I purchased the mini ice cube trays, but I can’t get the cubes out in one piece? Do you have a suggestions on how to make the cubes not stick?

    • Hi Joni, The best solution is to put the trays in the freezer for a few minutes and then take them out and tap the cubes out.

  4. Hi. I’m going to try this for my son’s birthday. How many days in advance can I make the actual chocolate cake? Thank you for sharing this amazing cake.

  5. Hey Ann, I was thinking if you can make a cake based on Monster High. My birthday is in April, but I’m also going to Atlanta for thanksgiving so maybe you can like do a vacation cake too maybe. Either on is great too. If you do The Monster High one can you add the dolls. (All the ones you can find at Walmart maybe.) More information I will text you on my gmail.

  6. Hey Ann, so I was think

  7. Hi Ann, I’m trying to make this cake for my sons birthday next week but i’m concern about the cake. How long in advance I can bake the chocolate cake. I’m afraid to do it in the last moment and not baking it well. Thanks can I keep the chocolate cubes in the fridge for a few days

Ann, one more question, I bought the template but I have a doubt, do I have to put extra chocolate in the bottom of all log blocks, once they are solid or only in some of them, which ones? thanks

    • I am having a hard time convert to Inches for size of cake pan and Ounces for measurements

      • Hi Joni, Ann used cake pans that were 15inches by 10 inches. For the oz conversion, these should appear automatically on your screen as part of the recipe, but if you can see it on the page you are viewing use an online converter. To help it is good to know that about 100g of choclate is about 3.5 ounces.

    • Hi Pepa, The chocolate cubes will keep well in an airtight container. Ho long the choclate cake will take to coo will depend on the size of your trays and your oven. You can start checking it around the 20 minute mark, using a knife to test if the cake is properly cooked in the middle.
For the log or wood blocks, you don’t need to add the extra bit of choclate to the bottom of all. Just do it for those you need to trim to show the neat’wood grain’ in the middle. This will make them square again.

  8. Hi Ann, I’m really confused – the video says to make a 38 x 25cm cake, cut into 1cm thick layers, and then to put TWO of these side by side on the cake board as the base of the cake, making the whole cake 38 x 50 cm.. But the template I’ve bought suggests this will be way too big – it looks like the whole cake as described in the video and template will fit onto a single 38 x 25cm layer. What am I missing??

    • Hi Sharon, you can see from the video that Ann takes one tray of cake and cuts into 2 layers that are laid side by side to creat a 38 x 50cm base. The additional cake is cut into layers and added to created the topography of the land. The finished cake is quite large and looks like a landscape.

  9. Hi Ann, I just discovered your web-site and I wanted to say – you are amazing!!! I will show it to my girls and I am sure they will love it too.

  10. hi Ann I made this for my bestfriends little brother he LOVED IT!!!!! thank you so much for sharing this video

    • That’s great Abby! Do you have a pic??

  11. My attempt!

    • Hi Sophie, We can’t see the pic at our end. Hope you were pleased with the result.

      • Ann, one more question, I bought the template but I have a doubt, do I have to put extra chocolate in the bottom of all log blocks, once they are solid or only in some of them, which ones? thanks

  12. What brand of coloring do you use for the chocolate? The ones we get at our local shop always end up looking more like pastel colors.

    • Hi CakeDad, Ann prefers powdered colour which she mixes into a small amount of the chocolate fist to ensure it is evenly mixed and then mixes in the remainder. She doesn’t recommend a particular brand.

  13. Hey Ann!
I love your work! I wanna make this at home! but i was wondering if you could tell me on witch site you bought the square make thing in witch you made all the blocks (i don’t know the word for it). Hope you could tell me so i can order it too!

    • Hi Linda, Ann recounts on the video how she came across it. It is a mini icecube tray. Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KLAPU3G/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00KLAPU3G&linkCode=as2&tag=howtocookthat-20&linkId=PZF3Z2JNGEJUHYY2

      • I bought two of the ice cube trays you link to here, and have made several trays worth of the cubes. And now I realise why I am having so much more trouble than Ann getting my cubes to work – the mini ice cube trays you have linked to above are NOT WHAT ANN USED. Ann’s trays appear to make cubes that are significantly larger than 1cm cubed (at least 1.5 times as large), which is what this tray makes. This is why none of my measurements work, and why I’m struggling to get my blocks right. So after wasting $20 on these ice cube trays and another $20 on the chocolate I have moulded, I have finally realised these are the wrong size trays and the right sized trays are going to cost me about $50 to ship to Australia and I won’t get them in time to get this cake finished for my son’s birthday. So I’ve wasted all this money (plus paying for the template and the cake tin which I now don’t need) on a cake I can’t make, not to mention that my son really wants this cake. I’m really, really unhappy.

        • Hi Sharon, That is a shame. Ann’s trays do indeed make 1 cm cubes. I have to say I ate a few of these little chocolate blocks myself so I am confident they were the correct size and they were purchased easily in Australia. Ann provides links to products that are commonly available to most areas via major online stores.

  14. I just bought the template and I have everything except the green sprinkles. What type of sprinkles are they? I didn’t realize that there were some many shapes and colors of sprinkles.

    • Hey Nicole, Just select what you can readily obtain or you like the best. Ann used tiny green round ball sprinkles. Some brands refer to them as non-pareils, but green jimmies (oblong sprinkles) work too. Locally we get them in the supermarket as Dollar 5’s and you get 5 different packets of sprinkles in the one box.

  15. Anne, I don’t know whether to love you or hate you LOL!! I just love your cakes while at the same time I’m having a nervous breakdown as to how I am going to go putting the whole thing together for my daughter’s birthday! So glad that you can make the blocks beforehand YAY! Will post a photo when I’m done :0) Thank you once again for your awesome work.

    • Hi Gillian, Just give yourself plenty of time!

  16. may i please know the name of ann’s helper

  17. Hey Ann & HTCT crew! Just in case you miss my comment on youtube, I’m wandering how far in advance could I make the chocolate work- like a month? And if it could be stored in the fridge or pantry? Thanks! Love your work x

    • Hi Madi, In principle you could do the chocolate work well in advance. 3-4 weeks should be fine and keep it in a cool cupboard, in an airtight container.

  18. I Love it. Im going Crazy about because its so creative and looks so delicious

  19. I love your art and cooking ann

  20. Ann you are seriously one of the most down-to-earth creative youtubers out there. Thankyou for sharing your skills:)

    • Hi Fiona, Ann really appreciates your feedback.
