  1. Thank you for showing me how to make this cake. My daughter was delighted. Here is my attempt

    • That is a fabulous effort Sarah. The cake looks phenomenal!

  2. Hi Ann,
Just wanted to thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with us. I made the Minecraft village cake for my husband’s 40th birthday, and it was a huge success. First time I’ve tried tempering chocolate (and in 35+ heat!) Thanks to your videos and descriptions it worked well, and the cake stayed looking as it should and not a melted tower of chocolate that I feared it might end up being!

    • Hi Vanessa, you village looks amazing. I hope Bryan was impressed! Fabulous effort!

      • Thanks Ann, yes Bryan was suitably impressed (he actually stuck together the main house for me) as was our 5 year old son, Bob, who worked out the details for us! I now have to prepare blocks for Bob’s 6th birthday, although he wants dinosaurs (minecraft mod), so wish me luck!

  3. What size are the ice molds? The link doesn’t work ?

    • Hi Jessica, The ice molds make cubes that are about 1cm x 1cm x 1cm . We will check the link but it probably means that product isn’t current available, however there were other options to choose from. Just make sure you choose a silicon mold so you can push the chocolate cubes out with ease.

  4. Hi Ann, here is a photo of my attempt at a Minecraft Village using your cake recipe & creative ideas. I made the silly mistake of not tempering the chocolate so I could not get all the details I had hoped.

    • Hi Tamalisa, Great effort on your Minecraft cake!

    • great job, this looks so cool. Going to miss having you hanging out on Thursdays 🙂

  5. Thank you so much for the tutorial and sorting out the template issue:D I had one VERY happy little boy!!!

    • Hi Emily, Your finished cake is sooo empressive! Well done!!

  6. I love this tutorial and am going to try it for my sons 7th Birthday in a month. I’m just wondering roughly how many grams of sprinkles I’ll need? I can’t get plain green where I live and so am making my own. It’s very time consuming so a rough idea would be greatly appreciated:)

    • Hi Emily, Bags of sprinkles usually come in 150-200g lots. That should be plenty for this cake. This cake can take a while, Ann says to allow at least 8 hours but she wouldn’t recommend trying to do it in all in one go. The chocolates are time consuming but You can make the chocolates well ahead of time, even weeks ahead. The cake is quick to make. The assembly of the village needs time and patience but is fun to do.

      • Thanks for taking the time to get back to me:) I think it looks like heaps of fun, and thanks Anne for doing all the hard work for us! I’ve already got all the chocolate and the moulds just arrived, so I figure I can make a couple of trays a night until I have enough. I’ve already made about 150grams of sprinkles so I’ll use them for the grass blocks and make some more to cover the cake. Thanks again:)

  7. I’m 12 years old and I’m making my brothers 9th birthday cake so What size cake board will I need

    • Hi Bonnie, Ann uses a wooden board that was 45cm by 50cm.

  8. I love your videos and you are amazing at teaching your viewers. My new love for baking was discovered after my 9 year old daughter begged me to make your Minecraft cake for her. Thanks for all your wonderful work! Please check out my village

    • Wow Shanell, Your minecraft village looks awesome!

  9. Front view

  10. Loved making this for my son.thank you!

    • It looks so awesome Joanie! well done!

  11. Hiw do i just see the template without buying it

    • Hi Rondaa. Templates must be purchased.

  12. Hi, can you please tell me where you got your ice cube moulds from? Thanks.

    • Hi Hieu, Ann provides a link to amazon in the recipe to the molds.

  13. I am going to attempt this and pray that it comes out as cool as everyone’s! My daughter will LOVE it! I was going to ask what is the approximate time to do this cake and also someone mentioned using Ghiradelli wafers but what exactly was that in place of? Just trying to figure out the best and easiest way to do this so it comes out amazing and delicious! Also the template is this just more so a map of the cake?

    • Hi Whitney, the cake part doesn’t take long to make but you need to allow plenty of time to make the chocolate bricks. They can be made well ahead. Plus the assembling can take time. You could easily make the bricks a week or so ahead. The wafers people mention are just a form of compound chocolate that can be pretty easy to work with as the wafers melt easily in the microwave. Compound chocolate is quite useful for this project as long as you are happy with the taste.

      • ok wonderful!!!! excuse the short typing but I currently have an infant in my hands while I type this. Basically this is a cake with a bunch of chocolate cubes right? and as far as the cake is there a recipe to follow? and are there is a way to get some step by step instructions for this?

  14. How far ahead can I make the chocolate blocks and should I store them in the fridge or freezer?

    • Hi Annika, You can make the blocks a couple of weeks ahead if you like. Storing them in an airtight container in a cool dark spot or the fridge is best.

  15. Hey I just love this idea but I was wondering, do you now how to make a villager for on the cake.
Just to make the cake more alive

    • Hi Ben, Just make him the same way as Steve but with different colours for your blocks. You will find the instructions for Steve at the 7:50 marker on the video.

  16. I had so much fun making this cake, you are an inspiration and make it all look so easy. Here’s the version I did for my daughters 5th birthday, it went down a treat and also tasted yummy with real rather than fake chocolate

    • Hi Barbara, yo did a fantastic job. It looks so good!

  17. Thank you for sharing your creativity. I took a shot at it and here were my results.

    • OMG that looks AMAZING – well done I hope my version works out half as good, and I hope it tasted half as good as it looks, yum, yum

      • Forgot to mention – your gravel blocks look excellent

        • Thanks for the compliment… Good luck!

          • Oh… Just a bit of advice. For the plant blocks and tree base block(with the pop stick) , wait until the chocolate is beginning to solidify before attempting to place the jellybeans and stick in the chocolate.

    • Hi Facha, You have done an incredible job. Well done!

  18. Hi, I really like both Minecraft and baking, so I was immediately drawn to this cake however, I’m not sure if I am good enough to make this. To anyone who has made this, how hard would you rate it?

    • Its not too hard, just very time consuming. I made the chocolate cubes a couple of trays a little at a time and stored them in tupperware until ready to bake the cake. This is the first decorative cake that I’ve made , so i have nothing to really compare it to.

      • I am planning to make this for my daughters birthday and am at the moment planning out all the steps. Like you I plan to do the blocks in the week before her birthday – I am using tempered chocolate (as per the video using plastic jug and not heating too much in the microwave). Approximately how long did you have to leave the cubes to set each time?

        • Hi! I did not use tempered chocolate. i did buy Ghirardelli chocolate wafers which, in my opinion, taste really yummy. This cut down allot of the prep time. I left them to set in the refridgerator for about 20 minutes and they were perfectly solid. Colored the cubes with powder coloring I found on Amazon.

  19. I am going to make this cake for my son’s birthday, so I decided to read the comments before I proceeded to buy everything. I found comments about the icecube tray in the link being different from the one Ann uses, so I decided to search for the exact one in the video. I was able to find it and here is the link.

    • please provide the link for the tray. im planing to make it myself for my son’s 8 birthday. any advice.

      • Hi Catherine, ann has provided one link to the silicon mini ice cube tray she used but a number of subscribers have found other suitable containers. if you scroll through the comments you can find the details in the comments.

    • Hi Jaime I live in the UK and have tried to find a similar mould over here without any luck and I could not find the link you gave. The only ones I could purchase were 1cm cubes. Could you please let me know the size of the mould used here. Thank you.

      • Sorry, I meant mine are 1/2cm.

  20. I have two trays ordered and I’m going to attempt to temper the chocolate to make the bricks for this cake (plastic measuring jug also ordered) – your video on tempering looks easy enough, hopefully it is. I’m trying to plan in my time to prepare for this cake so I’m wondering how long it should take for the tray of chocolate blocks to set between each batch? I must agree with all others that you do amazing videos, such a delight to watch, thank you so much for sharing your ideas. Hopefully this will be the first of many attempts for me to replicate your magic

    • Hi Barbara, The time taken to set will depend on the temperature and how long the ‘bricks’ take to thoroughly cool. A fridge will help with that. I would allow an hour at least, but don’t be tempted to push them out before they are really firm.

      • Thank you so much for your reply – I currently have an excel spreadsheet out putting a timetable together for myself for the week leading up to construction
