Fanta Bottle Cake
After the coke cake video there was an overwhelming number of requests for a fanta bottle cake. It is a bit of a trickier shaped bottle so I’ve added a few tips in the video to make it even easier to handle. Seriously these cakes are so easy to make, you can do this, it tastes amazing and looks gorgeous.
To make this fanta bottle cake you will need:
2.5L (0.66 gallons) or 8 cups fanta
6 gelatin sheets, softened in water
375g (13.23 ounces) white chocolate for the bottle (if you are using real chocolate you must temper it)
orange candy colouring or oil based food colouring
1 quantity of my fluffy sponge cake recipe
200g (7.05 ounces) white chocolate for the fizzy discs
30g (1.06 ounces) sherbet (If you can’t get sherbet you can make your own by mixing together: 2 tsp citric acid, 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda (or baking soda) and 2 Tablespoons of icing sugar)
500mL (16.91 fluid ounces) or 2 cups cream
Boil the fanta down to 1L (0.26 gallons) or 4 cups. This evaporates off the water and concentrates the flavour. Take half of this concentrated fanta (2 cups) and add the softened gelatin sheets. Tip this into a lined tray and place in the fridge to set.
Take the remaining 500mL (16.91 fluid ounces) or 2 cups of concentrated fanta and continue to boil it until there is only 250mL (8.45 fluid ounces) or 1 cup left. Set aside to cool.
Bake one quantity of my fluffy sponge cake recipe, level the top and cut four circles of cake out of each sponge and store them in a airtight container.
Take your empty fanta bottle and carefully remove the label so we can use that on the cake.
At the level where the label was, cut around the bottle to cut it in half. Wash and dry the bottle. Cut a slit down the sides and then tape back in place – see the video for guidance.
Take your white chocolate and if it is compound chocolate you can just melt it, if it is real chocolate containing cocoa butter you need to temper it.
Pour a small amount of white chocolate down the top end of your bottle for the section that is not filled with fanta.
Tip out the excess into a bowl and straighten the line using a spatula.
Add orange oil based food colour to the rest of the chocolate. If you add gel or liquid food colouring it will make your chocolate seize so it needs to be oil based.
Pour some into the base and spread it up the sides of the container making sure everywhere is covered. Then take the bottle and tip it upside down over the bowl to let the excess drip out. Leave it upside down on some baking paper to set.
Pour the rest of the orange into the top half of the bottle then slowly twist and turn to make sure all the sides are covered evenly in chocolate then stand it up and leave it to set.
For the fizzy discs pour the sherbet into the chocolate and stir through. Spread it out thinly on some baking paper and leave it for about 10 minutes. Use a cookie cutter to make circles in the chocolate then place it in the fridge to set firmly.
Once your bottle is set remove the tape and the plastic, see the video for the easiest way to do this.
Take the jelly out of the fridge and cut 8 circles. Put all the remaining jelly off-cuts into a bowl and microwave them until they are just melted, it should feel only slightly warm. Pour in the cream and whip it on high speed for around 3 minutes until it thickens to soft peaks. Put this into a piping bag and put some in the base of your bottle.
Add a circle of cake and push it down into the mousse. Now brush that with the fanta syrup that we made to give it moisture and flavour.
Add a circle of fanta jelly followed by a fizzy white chocolate disc. Then more of the mousse, the cake and the syrup. Continue to layer up both halves of the bottle to the top.
Place some melted chocolate around the join and add the top half of the bottle into place.
Smooth off the chocolate around the join, then add the label into place. Put the lid on the bottle or you could make one out of fondant like I showed you in the coke bottle cake video.
Cut the bottle cake open to reveal all the pretty layers of fanta flavoured cake, fanta mousse, fizzy discs and fanta jelly. It tastes awesome and is an easy cake to make.

Hi Ann.
What brand of food coloring did you use for the Fanta cake?
Love your videos. My daughter 8yr thinks you’re very talented.
Cheers
Amanda
Hi Amanda, Ann doesn’t recommend any particular brand of coloring. She uses a variety. Some common brands are chroma cake, candy color, Elaine’s.
How do you stop the bottle from warping? or stop the chocolate from going solid while it cools down enough for it not to warp the bottle?
It is all about timing Allegra! You do need to work quickly. Dont add the chocolate when it is too hot. Hear the plastic bottles don’t warp easily. Maybe the bottles you are using have a less tolerant plastic.
Hi Ann,
I am from Brazil and I love your blog!
I see that you use 2,5L on recipe but your bottle has 1,25L on photo
Did you use 2 bottles to make the recipe?
Hi Gabriella, Yes you need 8 cups of Fanta.
Your recipe for soda bottle cakes has more depth of flavours than other soda bottle cakes plus cutting bottle in half works so much better than how i was showed. I am so gladd I discovered your. Blog. Question how long will gel disc and fizzy disc keep
Rob rogers. Owner of cake project dayton ohio
Hi Rob Rogers, The fizzy chocolate discs keep well as long as they are stored as you usually would store chocolate. The gel layers will likely keep for 3-5 days, though Ann’s cakes usually get eaten pretty quickly so the shelf life hasn’t been tested.
Hi Ann!
Can you please make a video on how to make powdered sherbet? As u have said in your video, I could’t find any recipe for that.
Hi Ann..please reply…you have said in your video that the recipe is in your website. But i coudnt find any..Please post your recipe for sherbet powder
With love
ROSE
Hi Rose, Ann has not provided a recipe for sherbet as it is something that we can purchase in supermarkets here in a range of flavors. It can be made in a couple of different ways depending on what ingredients are accessible to you locally. The most common recipes use Icing sugar, sometimes called powdered sugar, baking soda, citric acid and tartaric acid, plus your flavor of choice. Usually it is about a cup of sugar to 1 tsp of the other ingredients and flavour to taste. Experiment to see what you like.
Thank you!! I think all those ingredients are available here..Thanks again!
I’m assuming the jelly could be done with agar like the coke jelly?
Is there any particular fizzy drink this coke/fanta method wouldn’t work for or would need adjusting significantly?
Thanks
Hi Munkii, You would need to experiment with the agar to ensure it held up as well. Some of our subscribers have tried different soft drink flavours with pleasing results, however while it should work with any syrup based flavour I think the strong and recognizable flavours would work best.
Gee wisrkiell, that’s such a great post!
Hi Ann, I’ve been watching your YouTube videos for over a year. I’m 13 years old and live in England and have made quite a few of your creations. I really liked the idea of the bottle cakes and made two small ones for my aunt and uncle. I made vanilla and chocolate sponges as well as the jelly and fuzzy discs but used popping candy. Thanks for the great idea. I enjoyed making them and they loved eating them!
wow!! They are so nice!
Awesome work Anna! Well done.
That is amazinģ
Hi Ann! My 7-year-old son, Asher, BEGGED me to make this cake for him! Here in the US, I wasn’t able to find Fanta. So I made an Orange Crush cake. I wanted to share the photo with you. The label on a bottle of Orange Crush is really wide, so I found it difficult to get it to lay flat against the bottle without being a little crooked here and there. I made all the separate components just as you outlined, but I decided to experiment with the fizzy disks. I folded orange Pop Rocks into the white chocolate instead of making my own sherbet powder. It worked very well! Thanks for a great video, love your whole channel! -Heather
Hi Heather, This looks so good.. Great idea with the pop rocks.
Wow
Hi Ann,
Great tutorial as always! Keep it up!
How much gelatine powder can I use for this recipe if I don’t have gelatin sheets where I live?
I’d love to try this one out soon.
Love,
Aliya
Hi Aliya, You could work on the basis of roughly 1 teaspoon of the gelatine powder to 2 gelatine leaves, however gelatine comes in different strengths so it is an approximate guide only.
Thanks so much, I’ll try it. Also, what brand of real chocolate do you use for your recipes and where do you get it from?
Cheers!
Aliya
Hi Ann I love your videos.
Hi Ann! I am 17 and I have loved baking for a large part of my life. Your channel is amazing and you inspire me to make my cakes more creative with every update. I tried a variation of your Black Forest cake for my grandpa’s 92 birthday and even though it’s not a great picture I thought it came out amazingly. (The thing in the middle is a chocolate bear outline) Also I am planning on making a pink starfish cake for my marine biology class. Any tips?
Thanks Ann I wish you the best,
Andrew Brown
Hi Andrew, that is fabulous work. All the best with your starfish cake. For ideas really there are lots of options. See this cake for ideas for decorative pieces you can put around your starfish: https://www.howtocookthat.net/public_html/princess-ariel-mermaid-cake/ . You could look at doing a giant gummy starfish: https://www.howtocookthat.net/public_html/giant-gummy-bear-recipe/ or a glaze finish: https://www.howtocookthat.net/public_html/new-instagram-logo-dessert/ .
