Fanta Bottle Cake

After the coke cake video there was an overwhelming number of requests for a fanta bottle cake. It is a bit of a trickier shaped bottle so I’ve added a few tips in the video to make it even easier to handle. Seriously these cakes are so easy to make, you can do this, it tastes amazing and looks gorgeous.

To make this fanta bottle cake you will need:

2.5L (0.66 gallons) or 8 cups fanta
6 gelatin sheets, softened in water
375g (13.23 ounces) white chocolate for the bottle (if you are using real chocolate you must temper it)
orange candy colouring or oil based food colouring
1 quantity of my fluffy sponge cake recipe
200g (7.05 ounces) white chocolate for the fizzy discs
30g (1.06 ounces) sherbet (If you can’t get sherbet you can make your own by mixing together: 2 tsp citric acid, 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda (or baking soda) and 2 Tablespoons of icing sugar)
500mL (16.91 fluid ounces) or 2 cups cream
Boil the fanta down to 1L (0.26 gallons) or 4 cups. This evaporates off the water and concentrates the flavour. Take half of this concentrated fanta (2 cups) and add the softened gelatin sheets. Tip this into a lined tray and place in the fridge to set.

Take the remaining 500mL (16.91 fluid ounces) or 2 cups of concentrated fanta and continue to boil it until there is only 250mL (8.45 fluid ounces) or 1 cup left. Set aside to cool.

Bake one quantity of my fluffy sponge cake recipe, level the top and cut four circles of cake out of each sponge and store them in a airtight container.

Take your empty fanta bottle and carefully remove the label so we can use that on the cake.

At the level where the label was, cut around the bottle to cut it in half. Wash and dry the bottle. Cut a slit down the sides and then tape back in place – see the video for guidance.

Take your white chocolate and if it is compound chocolate you can just melt it, if it is real chocolate containing cocoa butter you need to temper it.

Pour a small amount of white chocolate down the top end of your bottle for the section that is not filled with fanta.

Tip out the excess into a bowl and straighten the line using a spatula.

Add orange oil based food colour to the rest of the chocolate. If you add gel or liquid food colouring it will make your chocolate seize so it needs to be oil based.

Pour some into the base and spread it up the sides of the container making sure everywhere is covered. Then take the bottle and tip it upside down over the bowl to let the excess drip out. Leave it upside down on some baking paper to set.

Pour the rest of the orange into the top half of the bottle then slowly twist and turn to make sure all the sides are covered evenly in chocolate then stand it up and leave it to set.

For the fizzy discs pour the sherbet into the chocolate and stir through. Spread it out thinly on some baking paper and leave it for about 10 minutes. Use a cookie cutter to make circles in the chocolate then place it in the fridge to set firmly.

Once your bottle is set remove the tape and the plastic, see the video for the easiest way to do this.

Take the jelly out of the fridge and cut 8 circles. Put all the remaining jelly off-cuts into a bowl and microwave them until they are just melted, it should feel only slightly warm. Pour in the cream and whip it on high speed for around 3 minutes until it thickens to soft peaks. Put this into a piping bag and put some in the base of your bottle.

Add a circle of cake and push it down into the mousse. Now brush that with the fanta syrup that we made to give it moisture and flavour.

Add a circle of fanta jelly followed by a fizzy white chocolate disc. Then more of the mousse, the cake and the syrup. Continue to layer up both halves of the bottle to the top.

Place some melted chocolate around the join and add the top half of the bottle into place.
Smooth off the chocolate around the join, then add the label into place. Put the lid on the bottle or you could make one out of fondant like I showed you in the coke bottle cake video.

Cut the bottle cake open to reveal all the pretty layers of fanta flavoured cake, fanta mousse, fizzy discs and fanta jelly. It tastes awesome and is an easy cake to make.

Can you use another flavour of Fanta such as grape or cream soda?

    • I’m gonna make this with grape fanta. I’ll see how it goes, I’m trying to adjust things but I don’t think you need anything drastically different, like the cake used I’m just gonna use a box mix of vanilla cake and it should be okay with the grape fanta syrup mixed with the white chocolate. anyway yeah i’ll see how it goes

      • Sounds good cal, how did you go? ?

Can this technique work for every kind of soda? Would the flavors work? Would the quantities be different? Would it work for subtle flavors, like ginger ale? Would different flavored cakes work better then normal sponge cake?
If there are such differences, you should make a video (or at least a post) saying the differences for different flavors 🙂
    Love your channel!!!!!
