The Fault In Our Stars Cake TFIOS

The Fault In Our Stars is a best-selling novel by young adults author and YouTuber John Green. Scroll down to see a little more about the book and movie that topped the box office. In response to the tsunami of requests for a Fault In Our Stars dessert I’ve made this TFIOS icecream cake with crushed chocolatey bits and swirls of rich ganache. There are two reasons I love icecream cakes … first, icecream … and second, because you can make it a long time ahead and store it in the freezer. This cake was delicious but be warned, it’s tough to stop at just one slice!

The container I used has a volume of 3.25L (0.86 gallons)

The Fault In Our Stars Cake Ingredients

For the ganache:
130g (4.59 ounces) dark chocolate
150millilitres (5.07 fluid ounces) or 1/2 cup plus 1 Tbsp and 2 tsp cream

For the ice cream cake:
4L (1.06 gallons) vanilla or other ice cream
6 chocolate bars of your choice. I used 2 Caramello, 2 Boost and 2 Mars bars
200g (7.05 ounces) milk chocolate

For the blue coating:
600millilitres (20.29 fluid ounces) or 2 1/3 cups plus 1 Tbsp cream
blue liquid or gel colouring
decorating comb (optional)

For the TFIOS Okay? Okay logo:
100g (3.53 ounces) black fondant
100g (3.53 ounces) white fondant
non-stick baking paper

As I was saying earlier TFIOS author John Green is an amazing YouTuber who runs the channel ‘Vlog Brothers’ with his brother Hank. You can see him vlogging while on the TFIOS blue carpet for the premiere of The Fault in Our Stars movie.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ll keep that in mind. How about a layer of chocolate brownie for the base and top? I just want to include some sort of cake in it as it’s for my daughter’s birthday. Thanks so much!
I’ve used your cake recipes to make many of her birthday cakes in the past – the Frozen Fever one, especially, was a hit.

    • A thin layer of brownie could work well, anything that is not too thick – so you can cut through it with the knife when it is frozen.

    Hi Anne,
If I use a cake base for this ice cream cake, will freezing it make the cake base go all funny? Is there a specific type of cake base that would be better for this ice cream cake than others?
    Thanks you ever so much!

Är detta den typ av kakan du letade efter: https://www.howtocookthat.net/public_html/lego-batman-cake-decorating/ Mallen för denna kaka ska skrivas ut på 100% (ingen skalning) på A4-papper.

  4. Hi Ann, for the candy (chocolate) part of the ice cream can we put nerds in them?

    • Hi Talia, Absolutely if that is what you would like!

  5. did you end up finding out??

  6. What is the 200g of milk chocolate that is apart of the ice cream cake section on the recipe?

    • Hi Laura, This is chopped, mxed with the chopped chocolate bars and mixed in with the ice-cream filling. You can see Ann do this on the video, when she chops up the chocolate bars.

  7. Oh so so yum! I made this one over this last week
Chocolate &peanut brownie base, home made peanut butter ice cream with chopped up brownie chunks and snickers chunks, covered in home made Caramel and chocolate syrups Nd of course, more snickers bits.

    • That sounds Fab Mandy!

  8. How many people can eat that?

    • Hi Anna, This quantity makes about 80 x 50ml scoops of ice-cream. So depending on how many scoops you wish to serve per person, you could serve 20-40 people.

  9. i saw the movie. The hole movie is funny exept sometimes it is sad. When it was sad a laught i do not know why i do not cry on sad parts…

  10. Ann could you make more Fault in our Star treats !

    • thanks so much Martina what a lovely comment

  12. Hi, this cake looks amazing, how long does it need to be freezed for after everything is done? thank you 🙂

    • Hi Hnnah, give it at least a few hours so that it is firm all the way through

  13. What is cream? Because it driving me crazy that I have no idea what it means at all when you say it. And when I think of cream I think of cream cheese. its will help me a lot, so I can make this cake, too.

    • HI Linda,
Cream is the fat from milk. When you have milk that is fresh and has not been homogonized the fat rises to the top and can be scraped off. It is sold in the shops as cream. It is called all different things all around the world so I am sure you have it just by a different name

  14. Hi Ann when you say
    For the ganache:
130g (4.59 ounces) dark chocolate , in the recipe if there an additional 130g of milk chocolate or is this the whole amount

    • Hi Lena, this is the whole amount, it makes a runny ganache which sets when frozen. You can use milk chocolate if your prefer

  19. Hi Ann
I am a 27 year old children’s psychologist with not much time on my hands! However I love baking and it has been a passion of mine ever since I was a child. On average, how long does it take you to make a simple sponge cake with beautiful decorations? (Excluding fridge time etc). Thanks so much for the amazing vids:)
    Sas

    • Hi Saskia thats a good question I have never timed it taking out the baking and refrigeration time.
