Frozen Fever Cake

Mini Frozen Fever Cake with video tutorial

The Frozen Fever short movie played before the Cinderella movie. It was short and sweet. Elsa made elaborate plans to spoil Anna on her birthday, one of which was a party with an enormous four tiered cake. Big enough for a wedding. I’ve made a mini version for you here. Spoiler alert: Elsa falls sick with a fever and every time she sneezes mini snowgies fall to the ground and run off. The cynical side of me saw this movie as purely a marketing push for new toys – with a change of outfit for both girls, a new song and the snowgies. So once you’re kitted out with the new toys and in need of the cake, here’s how to make it.

To make your Frozen Fever Cake you will need

3 sponge cakes made using 1 1/2 times my sponge cake recipe and serves 15 people approximately.

Blue Frosting to pour over the cake
315g (11.11 ounces) or 2½ cups icing (powdered) sugar
120g (4.23 ounces) or 1/2 cup plus 1 Tablespoon butter or margarine
375g (13.23 ounces) white compound chocolate
120g (4.23 ounces) or 1/2 cup or 125millilitres (4.23 fluid ounces) cream
blue food colouring.
Mix together and add colouring to suit.

Royal Icing Recipe for white decorations
1 egg white or 32g (1.13 ounces) egg white (you can use pasturized egg whites or buy powdered egg whites and add water as per direction on packet)
150g (5.29 ounces) or 1 1/4 cup icing (powdered) sugar
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
few drop of mint or other clear essence (optional)

Buttercream for flowers and leaves
315g (11.11 ounces) or 1 1/2 cups icing sugar (powdered) sugar
120g (4.23 ounces) or 1/2 cup plus 1 Tablespoon butter or margarine
yellow food and blue food colouring

Whip together the icing sugar and margarine.

Add a few drops of yellow food colouring, pipe the flowers then add a few drops of blue to make green for the leaves.

  1. My Dads birthday is coming up and I am making the Frozen fever cake with out the Ana and Elsa topping. I was wondering if you could make a tennis cake that is easy with no fondent and only needs cake and frosting.

  2. Hi! I love this cake, but I am looking to make a cake for about 40 people for my daughters birthday. Would it be possible to increase the sponge cake recipe to accommodate that many, and if so how would I go about figuring out the amounts? If not I will stick to making another cake on the side. Thank you!

    • Hi Courtney, In principle you could double the quantities and add an extra layer or two on the bottom. You may have issues with the weight of the cake needing support so it might be easier to do 2 cakes the same. it is really up to you.

  3. Hi Ann,
I really love the cake and would like to make it for my daughters birthday. I hope I can do the piping
Can you please tell me, how wide the pan is?
If I read correctly you used 1 1/2 times the sponge cake recipe for all 3 cakes or for each of them?
    Sandra

    • Hi Sandra, Ann used 20cm round pans or that is about 8 inches. She asks for 1 and a half quantities of the sponge mix which will give you three 20cm cakes.

  4. Hi Ann,
Made the cake. Got rave reviews! I also made cupcakes from the same recipe and they were divine. Thanks so much. Here is a photo of the cake.

    • Great work Manoja. You ahve nailed the flowers beautifully.

  5. I made the cake! It’s a bit different from your version, I used fondant as the blue frosting and the buttercream frostings are a bit out of colour, but thanks so much for the inspiration!!!

    • well done kaitlin, looks yummy

      • looks floopy

      • make a another Elsa cake.:)

  6. Hi. I was wondering what you meant by chocolate drops? Did you mean chocolate chips? I live in Australia so what brand would I use thanks

    • Hi Will, Yes they are the same as what Aussie’s call chocolate chips. Use whatever brand is accessible where you are. Ann uses a variety.

  7. Hello!
I know some people have already asked this but how much white chocolate do we need for the icing? It’s not listed in the recipe. Thanks!!!!!!

    • Hi Kaitlin, You need: 375g white compound chocolate and 120g cream. We have now updated the recipe with these details.

      • Also, what number piping tip did you use to pipe the buttercream flowers?
Sorry for asking so many questions, I am making this cake at school and I’ll send you a picture when it is finished. Thank you so much!!!

        • Hi Kaitlin, Ann used a No: 30 tip for these flowers.

  8. Thanks for this recipe. I can’t wait to make it. I do have a few questions though;

    1) how many pieces of cake would I be able to get from this? If I want to get about 25 reasonable sized pieces, should I increase this quantity or would this be enough?

    2) how much double cream and compound white chocolate should I add to the buttercream icing?

    3) Instead of the sponge cake recipe you’ve mentioned, can I just make a basic Victoria Sponge?

Thanks, Ann. I look forward to you reply.

    • Hi Manoja, The recipe has been updated with the cream and chocolate quantities. A victoria sponge has a completely different texture and taste, but you could experiment to see how it works. This cake should serve about 15 people depending on how you cut your serves. Hope that helps!

  9. Oh my goodness!! Your boys are so cute! I love the little one counting lol. I’ll have to go like their channel and show my son! He is starting to help me in the kitchen so it will be nice to show him what he might be able to do when he is a bit older 🙂 Love the mini frozen fever cake. I have yet to see these frozen movies, I better get on it!

  10. Hi
In the video you added white chocolate to the blue frosting, but here it doesn’t say. How much was it?

  11. Hey Ann, can yo try and make a different popin cookin kit. It doesn’t have to be cake.

  12. WooooooooooW! this is soo awesome!!
hey ann can you please make something shadowhunter related?
my sis loves shadowhunters and she wanted to make a cake about it.
so please fairy godmother grant my sister’s wish!!

  13. I loved those little snowgies! Thank you so much for the video, see you next week.

  14. Thank you for this! Comes handy as lots of girls are so into Frozen themes for their birthdays 🙂

  15. Hi Ann! Your video could not have come at a better time. My sisters birthday is coming up and we are having about 15-20 people there. Would this cake feed that many or would I have to double the recipe.

    • Hi Kimberly, Did you end up making this cake. It should serve 15 people easily but it all depends on how you cut your serves. Hope it turned out for you.

  16. Very cool mini-cake! I dabble in metal fabrication a bit (not very good at it!), and noticed your piping technique where you were hiding the seam between the layers is exactly like one of the popular arc stick welding techniques, for a ‘fillet weld’. It takes welders a very long time to get the fine motor control to make a perfect looking weld. I bet you are an excellent welder and don’t even know it! : D

    • Thats awesome! Ann will love to know that but truly it doesn’t surprise me!

  17. Wow! I love how you’ve made this cake! I haven’t watched Frozen Fever yet but I’m sure it will be great! All my friends and I loved the first Frozen… maybe I can make this cake for them! Ann, you are truly amazing! How do you get such fabulous ideas?
Tara (No. 1 Fan in the UK!)

    • Hi Tara, Ann is very creative but she gets lots of ideas from her subscribers.

  18. Hello!
In the video, you added white compound chocolate to the icing, but here I can’t seem to find it.
Can you help me on that?
    Thank you in advance,
    Anna

  19. Loved your Frozen cake. I didn’t know your boys made videos, watch out you know what they say when you use children or animals. You have competition now. Lol Well done on your Snowies and the counting boys. Looking forward to watching all your videos.
