Miniature Baking: Apple Pie

As I was baking a tiny apple pie I was imagining a tiny creature enjoying it at the miniature table. There are not many animals that are small enough to fit in the mini kitchen, but I thought a baby chicken might. I searched online and sure enough you can buy 3 day old laying chickens to have as pets. We don’t really have a yard suitable for chickens and there are foxes about. So I asked if I could buy two chicks, keep them for filming and return them the next day. The hatchery was happy to oblige, so somewhere someone has these very chickens running around their yard. Superstars and they don’t even know.

Ann, I absolutely LOVE your channel and have been an avid fan for many years now. I, too, have loved miniatures since I was a small child and began making my own scale models at 4yrs old. now 6 feet tall and 51 years old with giant hands for a woman, undertaking actually USING a miniature kitchen would be beyond reason but you accomplish it beautifully!! The one thing I haven’t figured out is the eggs – where in the world do you get 1/12th scale eggs or how would you make them? I really wish we were on the same continent because I know we’d really get on well. But alas, I’ll have to continue to watch you from afar. Rest assured your techniques are in use by an artist of many realms here in Los Angeles and I send you new fans often. Thanks so much for your body of work and the always surprising, delightful and creative new frontiers you invent and endeavor…..

    Hi Ann,
I love your website so much! The mini challenges are so much fun to watch- and became my new favorites! Been following you for a couple of years now (Since my sons 3ed birthday- made him your fire truck cake, and then the race car cake for his 4th…), he just turned 7 last week and we had a magical birthday.. I made your doughnuts for the party- and thay looked amazing, and the frosting was ? but the problem was that thay were a little dry, and if not eaten write away- thay became really hard. Do you have any idea why that happened? Or what I can do differently?
Also my little one will be 3 in July- can you possibly make a construction, or building cake of some kind? For inspiration?
And lastly I would love to see you make mini cupcakes for your next mini challenge- if possible.. 🙂

Thank you so much for the inspiration, amazing creativity, and sweet fun every week!
    Efrat

    • Hi Erat, Thanks for the great feedback. It is hard to know what went wrong with your doughnuts without seeing them. Usually doughnuts should be eaten fresh. They are not designed for storing. It is possible though that they were cooked a little too long or something like that.

I’ve never seen baking powder in a pie crust recipe before, do you always do that?
Also, I’d like to challenge you to mini Crepe Suzette.

    • Hi Pamela, It depends on what type of crust you want to make. You will find the baking powder in Ann’s full sized recipe as well.

How about a mini carrot cake and invite two mice to eat it? By the way I just wanted to add that my daughter wants to make a YouTube channel. You inspired her! Thank you!

Hey Ann! I have quite a few questions for you.I was wondering if you could tell me where you got all the mini bowls and utensils and the jars that hold the flour and the sugar?(Pans too!) Also how do you keep your mini oven on when you shut the door?(I bought the same one but whenever I close the door the flame goes out!)Ok here is my final question….. Did you make the miniature ingredients yourself or do you buy them?

    • Hi Ta,
Ann has collected all her equipment over many years,. Some have come from stores, some were spotted on line and others she has had to make herself. To keep your stove working there needs to be a way for air to get in and the flame continue to burn. Does your oven have that or is there a way you can adjust it so there is airflow? Any ingredients are real but Ann creates the packaging etc.

What a cute idea to invite chicks, loved that part of the video (and the video without them, too, of course)!
It is midnight here and watching your video is my good-night-story after having done a loupe cake for my daughter´s detective birthday party tomorrow.

    • Lovely Corinna!

Hello! i would say you should invite mice or hamsters for cupcakes. But if you want to make something big maybe a pinata cake with mini m&ms inside. It would be sooo adorable
