Miniature Pavlova in VR180

To look around the mini kitchen on mobile you can simply tilt the phone side to side and up and down. On desktop computer press the navigation button in the top left.

Or if you’re one of the privileged few that own a VR headset you can go ahead and put them on and step right inside the miniature kitchen.

A few months ago when YouTube offered to send me a VR180 (virtual reality) camera to play with. My creative brain thought, “that will be a fun challenge!”   In hindsight, let me tell you, there was a lot more challenge involved than expected.

Ordinarily when you film you can see exactly what you’re capturing on the camera LCD screen and you can immediately replay it to check that you got the shot. Easy.

But when filming in virtual reality you see a warped fish eye view on the camera and the files needs to go through a fair bit of processing before you can view them. Basically you film, save the files to your computer, stitch the left and right eye together and then process them for several hours to make them suitable for editing.  Now you can edit the footage on a computer that struggles with the file sizes, so you can’t really see what you’re doing. Export the video overnight, process it for several more hours to make it suitable for youtube, upload to youtube and wait for google to process it. And now finally you can watch it in VR. All that, just so that you can check your shot.

So please accept my apologies for the not-so-perfect footage, the colour is a bit dull and you can’t quite see all of the bathroom. I could see it on my fish-eyed view but one of the many processes cropped it, so you can’t quite see it now.

Despite the VR production challenges I do love the end result,  you the viewer can be inside my mini kitchen and look around.  Let me know if there is anything else you’d like me to film in VR180?

Oh and I hope you like the renovations, I built extra floor, walls and a ceiling for this video.

Hi there. Fab video. Just wondering if your stove is actually heated to cook? I couldn’t see a candle. If it does when can I get it from please? Many thanks. Your videos are addictive to watch!!

I think that it is amazing how you make such tiny little things. The biggest puzzler for me though is how you get the tiny eggs. I think that you would need miniature chickens.
I like how you decorated the new bedroom. It is lovely. I couldn’t get the virtual reality to work on my phone, so I couldn’t see the bathroom. I will try to figure that out later.
