Decorating a cake is not fast and depending on your skill level and experience may not be easy.<br \/>\nSo don&#8217;t be too harsh on yourself if it doesn&#8217;t turn out right first time, just learn from the experience what didn&#8217;t work. <\/p>\n<p>Here are four cake rescues explaining what went wrong and how you can fix it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. The frog cake<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/frog-cake-rescue2-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-133357\" data-wp-pid=\"133357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/frog-cake-rescue2-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/frog-cake-rescue2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/frog-cake-rescue2-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/frog-cake-rescue2-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/frog-cake-rescue2-1200x675-cropped.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/frog-cake-rescue2-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/frog-cake-rescue2.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><br \/>\nThe problem: too much liquid in the buttercream<br \/>\nThe fix: Only use margarine\/butter and icing sugar, do not add any liquid at all, or add a maximum of 1\/2 a tablespoon of liquid per batch.<br \/>\nMy recipes for various flavours of buttercream <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/buttercream-cupcake-frosting-recipes\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>2.The boyfriend cake<\/strong><br \/>\nThe problem: Store bought ingredients only<br \/>\nThe solution: If possible make your own batch of buttercream, store bought frosting is too runny for under fondant.  But at a push you can make it work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.Chocolate Glaze<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cake-rescue-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-133355\" data-wp-pid=\"133355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cake-rescue-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cake-rescue-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cake-rescue-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cake-rescue-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cake-rescue-1200x675-cropped.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cake-rescue-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/cake-rescue.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><br \/>\nThe problem: Glaze keeps falling off the dessert<br \/>\nThe solution: This can happen if the glaze is too hot and it melts a layer of the dessert allowing the glaze to slide off.  Or, as happened here, if you are trying to cover ice-cream it will melts too quickly to allow you to apply a glaze.  To solve this problem use a silicone mold and line it with ganache (mine was made from 200g (7.05 ounces) chocolate and 80mL (2.71 fluid ounces) cream) then fill with ice cream and freeze over night.  They layer of ganache doesn&#8217;t melt as quickly as the ice-cream so doing this gives you time to glaze.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.
