The cute little plastic, collectable figures were invented by a fellow Aussie.  Had they been around when I was a kid I&#8217;m sure that I would have been saving my pocketmoney to get some.  <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0-rnEsLjS-0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"fn\">To make this shopkins cake you will need:<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Vanilla Cake:<\/strong><br \/>\n255g (8.99 ounces) or 1\u00bd cups plus 1 heaped Tbsp flour<br \/>\n255g (8.99 ounces) or 1 cup plus 3 Tbsp sugar<br \/>\n<span class=\"ingredient\"><span class=\"amount\">1 Tablespoon <\/span> <span class=\"name\">baking powder<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n1\/2 tsp salt<br \/>\n210mL (7.1 fluid ounces) or 3\/4 cup plus 3 tsp milk (4% fat)<br \/>\n3 eggs<br \/>\n75mL (2.54 fluid ounces) or 1\/4 cup plus 1 tsp oil<br \/>\n6oz (170.1 grams) or 180g (6.35 ounces) margarine<br \/>\n<strong>Silicone cupcake mold<\/strong> (<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00MES3YZE\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=B00MES3YZE&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=howtocookthat-20&#038;linkId=a83821367f7aa90356f448fc97783ef7\" rel='nofollow'>I have this one<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 170C (338 degrees Fahrenheit)<\/p>\n<p>Place the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder and margarine into a bowl and place that to one side.  Then to your milk add the oil and eggs.  Whisk them together with beaters until they are well combined.  <\/p>\n<p>Using the same beaters mix together the margarine and flour, keep going until it looks like bread crumbs then add in about 1\/3 of the liquid and mix together.<br \/>\nOnce it is combined add another third and mix that then add the rest and mix throughly.<br \/>\nSpray the silicone cupcake mold with cooking oil then add in your cake batter.  <\/p>\n<p>Place on a tray and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes.  <\/p>\n<p>Once they are cooked all the way through tip them out of the mold and leave to cool.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frosting:<\/strong><br \/>\nOne and half times my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/buttercream-cupcake-frosting-recipes\/\" title=\"Buttercream Cupcake Frosting Recipes\">orange buttercream recipe<\/a> mixed with 250g (8.82 ounces) milk chocolate finely chopped.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Case<\/strong><br \/>\n300g (10.58 ounces) Blue and 500g (17.64 ounces) purple candy melts.  Or you could use white compound chocolate and colour it using oil based food coloring.<br \/>\nFor the lid melt some blue candy melts and spread them over the inside of the cupcake mold making sure you get it all the way to the top.  Do the same with the base using purple.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fondant <\/strong><br \/>\n15g (0.53 ounces) white<br \/>\n15g (0.53 ounces) black<br \/>\n50g (1.76 ounces) blue<br \/>\n15g (0.53 ounces) pink<br \/>\n25g (0.88 ounces) purple<br \/>\n20g (0.71 ounces) yellow<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orange Simple Syrup <\/strong><br \/>\nRind of half an orange<br \/>\n1\/2 cup or 125g (4.41 ounces) orange juice<br \/>\n1\/2 cup or 63g (2.22 ounces) sugar<br \/>\nHeat in the microwave or stovetop until the sugar dissolves.  Strain to remove rind and allow to cool before using.  <\/p>\n<p>Pink luster dust or powdered food coloring <\/p>\n<p><strong>Assembly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cut the cake into layers<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-how-to-cook-that-550x270.png\" alt=\"shopkins cake how to\" width=\"550\" height=\"270\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-42277\" data-wp-pid=\"42277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-how-to-cook-that-550x270.png 550w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-how-to-cook-that-300x147.png 300w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-how-to-cook-that-60x29.png 60w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-how-to-cook-that-400x196.png 400w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-how-to-cook-that.png 1870w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Line the lid with an even layer of frosting. Place the smallest layer of cake down the bottom and brush it with orange flavoured simple syrup, then add a layer of frosting. Add the next layer of cake, brush with syrup, then add a layer of frosting. Top with your final layer of cake, syrup and frosting.  Then repeat that with the base of the cupcake and place them both in the fridge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P2120308-550x413.jpg\" alt=\"shopkins cake\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-42096\" data-wp-pid=\"42096\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P2120308-550x413.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P2120308-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P2120308-60x45.jpg 60w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P2120308-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For the eyes roll out some white fondant and cut out two circles.  Then cut two smaller circles of black and using a little water attach them to one side of the white.<br \/>\nUse a straw to cut a tiny circle of white and add it on top of the black positioning them in the same place on each eye.<\/p>\n<p>Roll a thick snake of blue and cut it to size for the candle, cut it bigger than you think because you can always shorten it later.<\/p>\n<p>Roll a ball of yellow then roll it on one side to make a long teardrop shape and bend over the top, then add it to the candle.<\/p>\n<p>Loosen the mold from around the top then place it on a cup and carefully bend the silicone all the way down and lift off the cupcake.<\/p>\n<p>Place it on a cake stand and add the eyes making sure the white dot is facing the same direction.<\/p>\n<p>Roll a tiny snake of black and cut it into equal sections.  Roll it again to taper out the ends and then cut it in half.  Then add those like eyelashes around the eye with one on the top and two on the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>For the lips roll a ball of pink, flatten it slightly and pinch the base to make a triangle shape then round the bottom.  Add the lips onto the cupcake.<br \/>\nFor the feet roll a ball of purple and cut it in two.<br \/>\nFlatten each one slightly then add it to the base of the cupcake just under the lips.<\/p>\n<p>In her hands she is holding a present and a card.  Cut those out of blue fondant, the same colour as your candle.<\/p>\n<p>Then roll a thick snake of purple and cut it in two for the arms.<\/p>\n<p>Using some water to make it stick add the present and then place the arm on top.<\/p>\n<p>For the other side make a cut for the hand to hold the card and place the card in the gap then add it to the side of the cupcake.<br \/>\nThen add a tiny ball of purple for the nose.<\/p>\n<p>Tip the top upside down on some baking paper and peel off the mold.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-ann-reardon-550x310.png\" alt=\"shopkins cake top\" width=\"550\" height=\"310\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-42276\" data-wp-pid=\"42276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-ann-reardon-550x310.png 550w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-ann-reardon-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-ann-reardon-60x34.png 60w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-ann-reardon-400x226.png 400w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shopkins-cake-ann-reardon.png 1472w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Spray with some food colour or you could dust with pink luster dust and add the candle to one side.
