This week has been a bit of a stressful one for me, filled with many specialist doctors appointments.  Our paeditrician was concerned about a valve in my sons heart.  Thankfully an echocardiogram today showed that the valve is in fact working properly and that his heart is healthy.  As a mum everything takes a backseat when your kids are sick, as a result I am only now sitting down to write this recipe post and I haven&#8217;t even filmed this week.  I&#8217;m not quite sure how I&#8217;ll fix that problem but I am just so happy to be worrying about that rather than if my son can play basketball and run around without danger.  Perspective is a wonderful thing.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"fn\">If you happen to want to make a 3d standing up donut cake you will need:<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Vanilla cake<\/strong> baked in three trays:<br \/>\n<span class=\"ingredient\"><span class=\"amount\">675g (23.81 ounces)<\/span> <span class=\"name\">margarine<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n675g (23.81 ounces) sugar<br \/>\n15 eggs<br \/>\n675g (23.81 ounces) flour<br \/>\n12 tsp baking powder<br \/>\n3 tsp gelatin (optional but makes for a softer cake by acting as an emulsifier)<\/p>\n<p>Beat together the margarine and sugar until pale.  Add in the eggs and beat to combine.  Add in the flour, baking powder and gelatin and whisk on low speed until just combined.  Split evenly into three trays and spread out.<br \/>\nBake in the oven for 25 minutes or until golden then leave to cool. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Donut frosting: <\/strong>(between the layers)<br \/>\n600ml cream<br \/>\n4 cinnamon donuts<br \/>\nextra cinnamon to taste<br \/>\n4 tablespoons icing sugar<br \/>\nSimmer the creme and donuts together for a few minutes then remove from eh heat.  Break up the donut into the cream until you have small pieces then leave to chill in the fridge.   Once chilled whip with the icing sugar until it is smooth and fluffy. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Vanilla buttercream <\/strong> (around the outside of the cake)<br \/>\n240g (8.47 ounces) or 1 cup butter or margarine<br \/>\n630g (22.22 ounces) or 5 cups or icing sugar<br \/>\nvanilla essence<\/p>\n<p>Beat all ingredients together until light and fluffy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fondant <\/strong><br \/>\n50g (1.76 ounces) black<br \/>\n45g (1.59 ounces) red<br \/>\n30g (1.06 ounces) yellow fondant<br \/>\n30g (1.06 ounces) blue fondant<br \/>\n500g (17.64 ounces) tan donut colored fondant<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other supplies<\/strong><br \/>\ndonut cake template<\/p>\n<div align=center>\t<p class=\"product woocommerce add_to_cart_inline \" style=\"\">\n\t\t\n\t\t<a href=\"?add-to-cart=57307\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-product_id=\"57307\" data-product_sku=\"\" data-quantity=\"1\" class=\"button buy-it-now-button add_to_cart_button product_type_simple\"><span class='button-label'>Buy<\/span><span class=\"woocommerce-Price-amount amount\"><bdi><span class=\"woocommerce-Price-currencySymbol\">&#36;<\/span>5.99<\/bdi><\/span><\/a>\n\t<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/paypalvisaetcforunderselz\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p>base board preferably mdf or other wood so it has weight to stabilize the cake<br \/>\n2 custom shaped cake boards (see template)<br \/>\ncentral threaded rod and 2 nuts<br \/>\nplastic cake supports hollow<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/donut-cake-ann-reardon-how-to-cook-that-3D-550x630.jpg\" alt=\"3D donut cake ann reardon how to\" width=\"550\" height=\"630\" class=\"photo\" data-wp-pid=\"57304\" \/><\/p>\n<p><h7 class=\"updated\">Copyright \u00a9 2017 Reardon Media Pty Ltd.
