That&#8217;s right, there&#8217;s no need to bake all those different coloured cakes separately &amp; level layers! With this recipe, all you do is trim the edge and pour on the ganache. Really it is that simple!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s school holidays in Australia so we&#8217;ve had grandparents visiting from out of State. Seeing them in person is much better than phone calls, especially for our littlest one. You can&#8217;t have cuddles down the phone, nor can you go to the shops together and come home with an awesome Lego set! (Thanks Nanny and Granddad)<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JYfFaFMYE1E?rel=0\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"fn\">Rainbow Steam Cake Recipe<\/h3>\n<p>Deep loose based round cake tin 20.5cm (8.07 inches) x 9.5cm (3.74 inches)<br \/>\n(if you are in AU or NZ you can get one <a title=\"deep round cake tin\" href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/u8ACaS\">here<\/a>)<br \/>\n<span class=\"ingredient\"><span class=\"amount\">2 cups or 320g (11.29 ounces)<\/span> <span class=\"name\">plain all-purpose flour<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-8859\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow_steam_cake-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"rainbow steam cake recipe how to cook that\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow_steam_cake-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow_steam_cake-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow_steam_cake-60x34.jpg 60w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow_steam_cake-400x225.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/rainbow_steam_cake.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><br \/>\n1 \u00bd cups or 327g (11.53 ounces) sugar<br \/>\n1 Tbsp baking powder<br \/>\n1 tsp salt<br \/>\n1 \u00bd tsp or 7.5g (0.26 ounces) gelatine (powdered &#8211; we are using the gelatine as an emulsifier in this recipe)<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup or 125millilitres (4.23 fluid ounces) vegetable oil such as canola oil<br \/>\n1 cup or 250millilitres (8.45 fluid ounces) cold water<br \/>\n7 egg yolks<\/p>\n<p>7 egg whites<br \/>\n1\/2 tsp cream of tartar<\/p>\n<p>Gel colouring I used purple, blue, yellow and red to make the colours you can see.<\/p>\n<p>Ganache to decorate<br \/>\n50g (1.76 ounces) milk chocolate<br \/>\n50g (1.76 ounces) dark chocolate<br \/>\n30millilitres (1.01 fluid ounces) cream (<a title=\"What cream should I use?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtocookthat.net\/public_html\/cream-use\/\">what cream to use?<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>To decorate (optional)<br \/>\nmacarons<br \/>\nadditional 50g (1.76 ounces) melted chocolate<\/p>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 160C (320 degrees Fahrenheit).<br \/>\nAdd the sugar, baking powder, salt and gelatin into the flour and stir it with a whisk.<br \/>\nMake a well in the centre and pour in the oil, egg yolks and water but don&#8217;t mix it.<br \/>\nAdd the cream of tartar to the egg whites and whisk to soft peaks.<br \/>\nMix the flour mixture on low until it is just combined.<br \/>\nMix in a third of the egg whites. Then fold in the rest in two batches until just combined.<br \/>\nSplit the mixture evenly between 6 bowls. Put an empty tray on the top shelf to stop it browning and a tin of boiling water on the bottom of the oven. This makes the oven steamy and keeps the cake moist.<\/p>\n<p>After 9 minutes add the next layer and return to the oven for another 9 minutes. Repeat with the remaining layers baking the top one for 11 minutes.
