Debunking green garlic, GMO oranges, crackled wine glasses, car ice cream and more
Sadly rage bait and click bait are an effective way to get attention from the algorithm. Which leads to many fake videos being uploaded. But not everything that you haven’t seen before is false, so how do you tell the difference? Send it in for debunking of course. In this episode we take a look at GMO oranges, crackled wine glasses, car wheel ice cream, gluten free pana chocolat and green garlic.
From this video:
Ice Cream
900mL (30.43 fluid ounces) Cream
4 eggs
1 tin sweetened condensed milk
1 packet of chocolate chip cookies, crumbled
Whisk together the cream and eggs in a pan until they reach 75C (167 degrees Fahrenheit) then immediately remove from the heat, pour into a bowl and cool in the fridge. Once cooled add the sweetened condensed milk and cookie crumbs.
Place the ice cream mixture into a sealed container. Put that container into a bigger container and add ice and a generous amount of salt. The salt lowers the freezing point of the water, so it can be a liquid while still at freezing temperatures. This cold liquid surrounding the ice cream container helps it to freeze. Ideally you want to stir the ice-cream to aerate it while it freezes and get it off the edges. Rolling it around doesn’t do as good a job because the part that freezes on the outside just stays there. For this reason some DIY methods will add a stainless steel ball or some sort of heavy agitator into the ice cream container as well. But it is a fun thing to try at home, I’d advise eating it straight away, if you put it in the freezer it will go solid, because it doesn’t have much air in it.
Chocolate Pana Chocolat
3 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1/2 tablespoon agave syrup
cinnamon
3 sheets of rice paper
75g (2.65 ounces) dark chocolate
Whisk together the egg, milk and gave syrup. Soak the rice paper in the mixture until it softens. Pat dry on paper towel. Stack the three sheets of rice paper on top of each other, add a stack of chocolate into the centre and wrap it up like a present. Place on some baking paper with the side that has the folded edges of rice paper on top (so it is thicker and protects the chocolate from the heat). Bake in an air fryer at 210C (410 degrees Fahrenheit) for 10 minutes of until golden on the outside. Too long and the chocolate will burn.
Green Garlic
Not all varieties of garlic work for this so before you embarking on peeling lots of garlic, test a couple of cloves.
You will need:
Glass jar or jars, use ones that are designed for bottling so they can withstand boiling water without breaking. Sterilize the jars and lids by boiling them for 10 minutes.
100g (3.53 ounces) garlic, peeled and ends removed
3 Tablespoons salt for rubbing
200g (7.05 ounces) sugar
2 Tablespoons salt
700mL (23.67 fluid ounces) white vinegar
700mL (23.67 fluid ounces) water
Rub the garlic with salt for 2 minutes, you are aiming to slightly bruise the outside. Leave to rest for 30 minutes. Rinse the salt of the garlic and place into sterlized jars.
Place the remaining ingredient in a plan and heat until it just starts to boil. Pour into the jars to completely cover the garlic. Add your lid and wait about 4 days.
