Star Wars Cake Millennium Falcon

star wars cake all edible reardon how to cook that

It’s nearly star wars day. May the 4th be with you.

My husband requested a Star Wars cake for his birthday this year, a millennium falcon to be precise. As the millennium falcon is largely monochromatic, but highly detailed, I thought it would be the ideal candidate for a silicone mold.

The desert cake part is easy enough for all ages to get involved. As long as you don’t mind getting the vacuum out after they are done helping.

To make the Star Wars cake you will need

Moist Carrot Cake Recipe

(this makes one tray of cake feel free to double it if you have more guests)
60g (2.12 ounces) or 3/4 cup desiccated coconut
120g (4.23 ounces) or just over 1 cup of walnuts, roughly chopped
1 ½ tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
140g (4.94 ounces) or 1 cup minus 2 tablespoons flour
140g (4.94 ounces) or approx 4 medium carrots carrots, coarsely grated
140g (4.94 ounces) crushed pineapple, drained
2 eggs
140g (4.94 ounces) or 2/3 cup sugar
100millilitres (3.38 fluid ounces) or 1/3 cup plus 1 Tbsp vegetable oil

Preheat the oven to 180C (356 degrees Fahrenheit)

Pour the oil, sugar and eggs into a bowl and mix together using a whisk.  Add the pineapple and carrots and mix.

Add the sifted flour, baking powder and cinnamon.  Fold until just combined.

Add the walnuts and the coconut and mix well.

Bake in a tray, mine was 38cm (14.96 inches) x 25cm (9.84 inches), until golden brown.

One quantity of cream cheese frosting.

Other Supplies

12″ square cake board.
three cake pop sticks
millenium falcon silicone mold
375g (13.23 ounces) White chocolate (if you are not using compound chocolate make sure you temper it)
turkish delight, dried fruit, nuts (optional)
silver luster dust
black gel food colouring
rust orange gel food colouring

Cool the cake, remove from tray and cut one piece to the size of your board.

Spread a small amount of cream cheese frosting onto the board and add the first layer of cake. Cover in a thin layer of frosting. Cut strips from the remaining cake and build up sand dunes.

Cover the whole thing in frosting.

Blitz the biscuits in a blender, or smash in a bag.  Add the ‘sand’ to the cake.

Use the silicone mold to make the millennium falcon as shown in the video above.  Then paint on details and add to the cake.

  1. I made this for my boy’s 7th Birthday yesterday I used chocolate cake covered in vanilla frosting topped with digestives. The Millenium Falcon is about 1kg of solid white chocolate, decorated with edible powder/paint

  3. How long of dowels should I use I bought the longest pack I thin they are 10 or 12 inch or would you recommend something shorter

    • Hi Amanda, They should be fine. Just trim them if needed to suit the way you wou would like the Falcon to sit. I would probably adjust use them at half size, it just depends on the depth of your cake underneath the chocolate Millennium Falcon.

  4. Thank you so much for posting this fantastic video. I am going to be brave as many here and try to make it for my son ‘s birthday ( turning 6)

    • Go for it Nella.

  5. Is there any way to use something else instead of pineapple for the carrot cake? Is that what makes it moist? Can that part be omitted entirely??

    • yes the pineapple makes it moist but you could use some soaked dry apricots as a replacement 🙂

  6. I really like your millennium falcon

  7. Hi, can you tell me where you purchased the Millenium Falcon cake mould?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    • Hi Leah, Ann found this one online. You can purchase it on Amazonfrom several suppliers and ebay currently. There is a link in the blog post above for one Amazon supplier and that page provides other suppliers as well

  11. Thought you would like to see the finished product.

    • That’s awesome, I love it great job 😀

      • Thank you for the idea.

  12. Hi, the cake sticks are enough to hold up the falcon without falling over?
    Thanks
    Sharon

    • Yes, you will need at least three and you insert the cake pop sticks into the chocolate in a triangle shape for stability. You can always add a fourth if you are concerned that it will topple.

  13. Thanks for this video tutorial Ann. I made an 18th birthday cake for my God son. The mold worked really well. Although had a bit of a panic when one of the front pointy bits broke but I stuck it back on by melting the chocolate with a hot knife. As you say the millennium falcon is a bit beaten up any way :-).
I going to be attempting the minion cake for my daughters birthday next week. Thanks again. I love your ideas and videos.

    • Hi Karen, The Millenium Falcon looks great. You can’t see the repair job at all. I hope your God son was really impressed!

  14. Hi Ann, I just clicked on your link for the mould and it says that it not longer ships to Australia. I live in Sydney so I don’t think my address being remote is the issue. Do you know of another supplier? Many thanks

    • Don’t worry Ann, I tried the link again and then it worked! Sorry for the previous message. Looking forward to making this for my sons 12 birthday! 🙂

    • Hi Sue, That is strange but glad you sorted it out. Post a photo of your creation when you are done!

  15. Hi Ann I absolutely your cooking and probably watches every video. I was just wondering where you get luster dust I’ve looked everywhere but they don’t sell it.

  16. Hi Ann I am in love with your cakes & creations. I was just wondering how many servings you got from this cake?

    • Hi Rhyann, The number of serves you will get depends on how you cut it and how generous you like to be with your serves. This cake gave about 15-20 serves of carrot cake. If you would like more just increase the quantities.

  17. try that again with actual pictures 🙂

    • Hi Jo, You have done a brilliant job. It looks fantastic.

  18. Made this for a friends birthday. The falcon is full of rocky road

  19. is there another site that you can buy that size mould on because AMAZON will not post to where we live in Australia but on ebay it is too pricey please help.

    • Hi sharon, Ann purchased from Amazon and it was deliverd to Australia without issue. The one linked in the recipe ships to Australia. If your area is too remote, then you could have it posted to a friend in a capital city or other delivery area and then have it forwarded on.

  20. Ann, I absolutely love everything you do . Not only does everything look delicious , you make it all seem easy and doable. I had a question . At the end of a couple of your videos, in the box that shoes other videos, I’ve seen something that Looked like silver or metallic balls. However when I look for that video in your list, I can’t find it. Can you tell me what video that might have been and is it still available?

Thanks and please keep the videos coming.

    Penny Collier

    • Hi Penny, I am not sure what item you are referring to. Can you let me know which video you watched and saw it. Maybe then we can track it down. On this video, the Cake Pops are the only thing that match your description but they aren’t really metallic looking.
